About Original Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer

James Hetfield's Famous ESP Double Neck Explorer Guitar used for "Fade to Black" during the Black Album Tours Era (91-95). It is an ESP Custom Shop Guitar with 12 and 6 string necks.

Many people believe that this is the guitar that James Hetfield used in the Pyro Accident at Montreal in 1992, Jaymz get burned with this Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer during a gig in Montreal on the 8th August '92 when the pyros to the song "Fade To Black" set in. It happened because the pyro-tech didn't inform the band that new pyro would be going along with the old pyro which only ignited along the wings of the stage. James assumed that the new pyro canceled out the previous pyro, so he stood on a point where a 12 foot flame from the old pyro ignited. This Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer can be seen at Gigs in Mexico 1993. He also used exact the same Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer ESP EXP model  later on Woodstock'94. So this guitar either has been restored or rebuild for this show.

This original Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer is a black double-necked ESP Explorer with a mahogany body and a rosewood fretboard. This Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer has 12 strings on the top neck and 6 strings on the bottom neck. The inlays are ducks. It can be seen on the "Binge & Burge" booklet,  James Hetfield Only used it on live show "Black Album" gigs. This Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer was exclusively played for the live performance of "Fade To Black".

In difference between this James' Double Neck Guitar James Hetfield Explorer and the standard ESP EXP serie, James guitars have set-in necks (glued joint) instead of bolt-on necks. Besides the "Black Album" guitars' fingerboards consist of ebony instead of rosewood and this one use " ducks inlay" instead of dot inlay.
